After careful consideration of the ongoing spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine (ARM) leadership has regrettably decided to cancel the 2020 Cell and Gene Meeting on the Mediterranean, an annual meeting of sector leaders scheduled to draw more than 500 attendees to Barcelona on April 15-17, 2020.
ARM has been closely monitoring developments in the coronavirus outbreak with the health and safety of our members, meeting attendees and staff as our top priority. Given the global nature of this meeting, and following recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), and relevant regional European public health authorities, regarding the escalating international public health challenge presented by the coronavirus, we believe it is in the best interest of all involved that we do not proceed with this year’s meeting.
While we are very disappointed with this outcome, we would like to sincerely thank our sponsors, our excellent slate of speakers and ARM members for their invaluable support and enthusiasm for this meeting to date. ARM remains committed to its role as the convener and voice of the cell, gene, and tissue-based therapeutic sector globally, and to providing our members with access to the rewarding experience and perspective gained from discussions with thought leaders, policymakers, and industry experts. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and look forward to the opportunity to host you at a future ARM event. We hope you’ll save the date for ARM’s 2021 Meeting on the Mediterranean, to take place April 7-9, 2021 in Barcelona, Spain.
We are exploring the feasibility of digital events as an alternative to in person events during this unusual period of social distancing. We will keep you posted as those plans evolve. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to stay up to date with the latest information and guidance from WHO and the CDC regarding the current outbreak of coronavirus.
